What Students Are Saying

James Mitchell

I loved taking lessons with Andy for two years! He took me from only playing songs with basic chords and simple strumming, to being able to play rock, jazz, and folk solos on dozens of songs. Our lessons were a combination of learning theory and practicing songs or improvising with us both bringing our suggestions to generate ideas for the direction to take my paying progress. Andy took his time to plan his instruction for me and send notes for me to reference and practice to during the week. Most of all, Andy was always open minded, kind, and supportive of my playing and I greatly enjoyed having him guide me forward in my guitar playing journey.

I took guitar lessons years ago and didn't learn much. Studying guitar with Andy has shown me what a difference a great teacher makes. Andy is always positive and patient, encouraging me and cheering on my progress. He balances well-planned formal learning with having fun with the guitar as he helps me figure out and work toward my own musical goals. And getting to hear such an accomplished musician play every week is very inspiring!

I have been taking lessons with Andy for over a year now. It has been a fun experience but also challenging which I badly needed and wanted to do. Andy is very patient and great fun to work with and he is extremely perceptive in terms of my training needs.

In the time that I have studied under Andy, he has guided me through different styles of music including blues and folk. He has taught me melodies and musical sight reading at my own pace and most importantly focused on improving my weaknesses. We have worked on my rhythm and timing and it has greatly improved. Every lesson allows for variations that I may request for instance if I want to learn any song, he can figure it out and teach it to me, from the chords to any hooks or riffs, the intro’s and solo’s.

Andy combines the best elements of confidence, clarity, patience and encouragement. Plus, he and his trusty Tele' play the blues like they mean business.
