About Andy
Andy's journey with the guitar begins all the way back to his high school years. Fascinated with the expressive sounds guitar produced he bought his first guitar and made it a goal to play in the high school jazz band. With the help of lessons and lots of committed time to playing, he passed auditions and hasn't put the guitar down since.
Andy attended college at the School of Environmental Science and Forestry, where he obtained a B.S. in Forest Biology. He loved learning about nature and science, but also continued to develop his musical skills. After playing in various bands and studying jazz improvisation at Syracuse University, he decided to move to Austin, Texas, and pursue music as a career.
Since moving to Austin, he has played wide variety of musical projects. This includes touring and playing in local rock bands, flat-picking bluegrass at festivals, performing at South by South West, and playing many solo acoustic gigs around town.
Andy also began teaching more students through a few local companies. He finds joy in sharing his knowledge of the instrument with others. Andy plays and teaches folk, country, blues, soul, rock, pop, ragtime, bluegrass, and jazz. Starting students as early as 4 years old, he has a knack for connecting with children and takes a playful, organic approach to teaching. Because of his dedication and enthusiasm, he has taught some of the same students for 8 years and counting!
